Bravo – An Afternoon of Opera and Musical Theatre

Some reunions are simply meant to happen.

When Garrie Davislim and Jason Wasley recently caught up on the phone, Garrie casually asked, “Would you like to do a concert together?” Jason’s answer was immediate: “Why not?”

Although both singers have enjoyed distinguished international careers, they haven’t performed together since 1998, when they were studying at the prestigious National Opera Studio in London.

Their friendship began even earlier at the Victorian College of the Arts Opera Studio in Melbourne, where they forged a strong musical partnership and shared many early professional experiences, including performances with Victoria State Opera. Garrie later received the coveted Covent Garden Scholarship to continue his studies in London, while Jason earned a place at the National Opera Studio through its highly competitive international auditions.

Supported by Britain’s leading opera companies—including The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera and Glyndebourne—the National Opera Studio became the launching pad for two remarkable careers. Jason remained in London, while Garrie moved to Germany, performing in many of the world’s great opera houses and festivals before establishing an acclaimed international career.

Now, more than 25 years later, these two friends reunite on stage for a very special concert.

Ballarat is the perfect place for this reunion, as both singers performed here as young artists at the Royal South Street Eisteddfod. Returning together to share music, memories and friendship makes this performance especially meaningful.

Accompanied by the outstanding Konrad Olszewski, the programme features beloved opera masterpieces by Verdi, Puccini and Mozart, together with favourites from musical theatre, including Les Misérables, Chess and West Side Story.

Whether you’re a lifelong lover of opera or simply enjoy beautiful singing and unforgettable melodies, Bravo – An Afternoon of Opera and Musical Theatre promises an afternoon of world-class music, warmth, humour and friendship.

We look forward to welcoming you.
