Following overwhelming audience demand after its sold-out premiere in Geelong last November, Marvelous Melba returns – this time to the Ballarat Performing Arts Centre – for a special encore performance celebrating the life, legacy, and music of Dame Nellie Melba. One of Australia’s most iconic cultural figures, Melba’s artistry shaped the nation’s operatic identity and inspired generations of singers. This concert invites audiences to rediscover her world through a rich tapestry of music and storytelling.

Presented by Geelong Opera, the program features an exceptional cast of regional artists: Lisa Breen, Zinaida Campion, David Eckstein, Tim Hetherington, Suzanne Moodie, Julie Fryman, and

Sonoka Miyake. Each performer brings their own interpretive colour to repertoire associated with

Melba, from beloved arias to reflective musical moments that illuminate her remarkable journey. The ensemble’s November performance was met with heartfelt praise, prompting many requests for a repeat – making this Ballarat presentation a rare second chance to experience the magic.

Set within the elegant surrounds of the Ballarat Performing Arts Centre, the concert offers more than a musical tribute. It paints a vivid portrait of Melba as a trailblazer, mentor, and cultural ambassador whose influence continues to resonate across Australia’s artistic landscape. Audiences will be invited not only to enjoy her music, but to connect with the woman behind the legend – her ambition, her resilience, and her enduring impact.

Whether you are an opera devotee, a lover of Australian history, or someone who simply appreciates stories of extraordinary women, Marvelous Melba promises an uplifting and memorable afternoon. Join us on 31 May 2026 at 2pm for this much-requested rerun of a program that touched hearts and celebrated one of Australia’s greatest voices.
