Something Good is Melbourne’s best improv show, starring cast and crew from Ch 10’s television improv juggernaut ‘Thank God You’re Here’. It’s long form improv at its finest, where every show is completely made up in front of your eyes and is always a chaotic and hilarious adventure!

Based off audience suggestion, Something Good makes up a show that is something great and something that will never be seen again. Hot off a sold out run at the Melbourne International Comedy festival, the rotating ensemble cast of Amy Ruffle, Ben Russell, Lena Moon Alistair Baldwin, Pedro Cooray, Tiana Hogben, Taylor Griffiths, Millie Holten, Tim Hewitt, Kyran Nicholson, Josh Chodziesner and Barney Pollock create a brand new show every night, that never fails to surprise and delight audiences.

Hugging Comedians – 4.5 Star

‘Something Good’ leveraged a talented ensemble to perform completely improvised mini-sketches based on stories that they, and their guest star, told at the beginning of the show. During the MICF, the guest star line up feature comedians including Demi Adejuyigbe, Phil Wang, Helen Bauer, and on this occasion, Lou Wall.

With a little bit of preconceived bias declared up front, Hugging Comedians has been to multiple ‘Something Good’ shows throughout the last year. While the retired SNORT will always hold a special place in our heart, the ‘Something Good’ crew have quickly become one our favourite improvisation group in how they approach their craft and welcome their special guest each show. As the ‘Something Good’ group have performed together for an extended period, it is clear (including in this performance as part of the MICF) that they understand each other’s comedic rhythms and strengths, and how to bring out the best of one another.

A huge joy of ‘Something Good’ is seeing comedy icons out of their comfort zone and trying something different. In this instance Lou Wall, the Princess of Punchline Planning (not their official title), were given a platform to step away from their finely tuned material to play and immerse themselves in the absurd world that the cast had created. It is this spontaneous joy that make ‘Something Good’ shows so enjoyable as the ensemble crew appear to take pride in embracing the fun and creating a safe space for their guest to be a little silly and bring the laughs.

If you are looking for a fully improvised show then we won’t hesitate to recommend a ‘Something Good’ show as you are in safe hands. The cast know when a scene is bringing laughs; and, when to cut it short and move on as highlighted on multiple occasions throughout the performance. Further, if you are a respectful audience member, you won’t be picked on, so you can just sit back and enjoy the frivolity unfold.
